Learning centers are an efficient way to divide the classroom into different subjects/learning areas. The location of each learning center, the location of any furniture or equipment, and readily available materials give a clear message to the child about what is to take place in that area.
Planning learning centers
Setting up centers requires some initial planning, work, and possible costs, but once set up, they save time and money. For example, you don’t want a reading area (quiet and comfortable) near a block, music, or dramatic play areas (loud and active). You also probably want the art center on hard, easy-to-clean floors and near the sink, but the science center near a window or other source of natural sunlight.
After school tutoring Learning centers take advantage of children’s natural need to explore as they have the chance to gain experience by trying out their own ideas in a hands-on way. Once created, you can write lesson plans by the learning center to make sure you offer something to enhance each subject. In each corresponding center, you can easily set planned activities for the morning/afternoon and the children can play in any center that interests them.
Advantages of learning centers
Disciplinary problems are limited because groups are limited to the number that can reasonably function in each area.
- Class management is easier because the children are in an area of their choice and interest.
- Children engage in hands-on activities as they explore and experiment.
- Caregivers can support children by providing them with self-learning resources.
- Caregivers can determine children’s progress by observation.
- Caregivers can easily determine what items to add to each area to encourage children to explore further.
- Children can learn multiple languages in a single learning center. For example, Shafi education also provides a french tutor in Brampton who teaches french language as a second language.
- Children understand classroom rules more easily when they apply them to specific areas.
- Each area contains only the essentials that allow children to control and create.
- The purpose of the surface is clear and understandable for children.
