Use of learning centers in child care

Learning centers are an efficient way to divide the classroom into different subjects/learning areas. The location of each learning center, the location of any furniture or equipment, and readily available materials give a clear message to the child about what is to take place in that area.

 

Planning learning centers

Setting up centers requires some initial planning, work, and possible costs, but once set up, they save time and money. For example, you don’t want a reading area (quiet and comfortable) near a block, music, or dramatic play areas (loud and active). You also probably want the art center on hard, easy-to-clean floors and near the sink, but the science center near a window or other source of natural sunlight.
