How to Draw Jeans
Step 1
We can all agree that every good pair of jeans needs a hole to put your legs in. That’s why we start this jeans design guide by drawing this essential part of them. These jeans have a thin edge at the top that you can draw with a flat shape.
Occasionally there will be belt loops that break this shape. Near the right edge of this shape is also an opening where the zipper goes. For this part, draw a small circle near the entrance and then extend a line down. Finish this step by drawing a dotted line near the zipper area; then, you can remove some pockets along with the top of the leg pieces.
Step 2
We will create these jeans by drawing the same way as everyone else, one leg at a time. Pulling the legs of these jeans should be a pretty easy step!
To start them, extend some slightly curved lines down from the outlines you created in the first step. Some curved lines jutted out a little near the knees.
Step 3
In this third step of our tutorial on how to draw jeans, we will finish the jeans outline. First, you can extend a few lines near the knees of the jeans for the shin panels. These may also have some line detail added for added realism.
So we can finally draw the lower part of the pant legs. These are stacked near the shoes, and you can use many smaller curved lines to remove them to create this effect. It is probably the trickiest part of the drawing, so don’t be shy and do it slowly and copy the reference image up close!
Step 4
You’ve finished the jeans part of this jeans design, so we’ll draw some shoes and other final details in the next few steps. For now, we’re just going to remove the top of these shoes and do it with some smaller curved lines. If you are happy with the condition of the boots so far, we can move on to some finishing touches and details in the next step!
Step 5
We will finalize the image in this step of our tutorial on how to draw jeans. For this, we will focus on completing the outlines of the shoes that you started in the previous part. Use a few more curved lines to create the toes and bases of the boots, as shown in the example image.
Once these shoes are complete, you can add a few details to finish them off! You could draw more of the person wearing those jeans or a background to give context to this image. These are just a few of the many ideas you could try, but how will you complete this image?
Step 6
In this last step of designing your jeans, you can finish them with some colour! Jeans come in many different styles and colours, giving you a lot of freedom in how you can complete this image. In our reference image, we’ve gone with the classic blue colourway that jeans are often associated with.
Although they’re primarily blue, we found ways to make them look more dynamic. We used different shades of blue to make the fabric look crumpled. You could choose a similar colour scheme for your photo, but don’t be afraid to choose a different one if you prefer!
